About us

Our Story

I opened Good Neighbor Café in October 2019. The space had previously housed a grocery store, a bakery, and an Ethiopian Restaurant, and the prior owner continues to run the neighborhood grocery store of the same name.  I envisioned the café as a comfortable, welcoming place where people could relax, read, and linger with friends while consuming house-made food and baked goods, and a variety of coffee drinks.

We kept the “Good Neighbor” name because we want to be seen as a good neighbor to the Central District community.  We have installed a little library and a bike rack in front of the café, and the café is designated as a “Safe Space.” In the early months of the pandemic, the café regularly provided free sandwiches to Swedish Hospital staff.

We regularly tweak our menu to ensure that there is something for everyone. We have glutton-free bread options as well as vegetarian and vegan choices.  We partner with two companies for our coffee and or signature tea that share our humanitarian vision. You can read more about Port Town Coffee and Madsen Cacao on our “Partners” page.  Please come on down for a visit. We look forward to serving you!
